Opening Day, 2010
Tomorrow is opening day of the baseball season. I don't count the Yankees-Red Sox evening game. But here's something I don't totally understand. The logic of blackouts is that if the game is not sold out, you don't show it on TV in order to encourage people to go. So why are there these two rules?:
• All live Toronto Blue Jays games are blacked out throughout the entire country of Canada.
• All live games will be blacked out in the U.S. territories of Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands during the MLB regular season.
So, if I live in Montreal, or in Vancouver, or in Whitehorse, I should be expected to drive to the game instead of watch the only Canadian team?
And, if I am in GUAM, why is baseball blacked out?
I love baseball, but I hate those who run it.
