When I was writing that last post, I ran across a website that featured, apparently, "Fun Egyptian Foods" created by a school class somewhere (grades 6-8 in TN, maybe). Featured in their study of traditional Egyptian foods--as one would guess by the title--was the gloopy travesty in the photo: a pyramid made of soggy Rice Crispy treats, flanked by a lovely green sugar Nile, upon which floats a an orange slice that has been skewered clean through by a Fig Newton. WTF? And we reduce the great civilization of Egypt to THIS? Please tell me the source that describes that the ancient Egyptian diet was Rice Crispy-based. Jeez, I hope these kids got a little more in their glimpse into the wonders of ancient Egypt besides "the ancient Egyptians like to eat Rice Crispies." Because I know one of them is going to show up in my class someday with this brilliant tidbit.
Give them something more intellectually rigorous, please!
