In the recent bouts of rain, I snapped a photo from my balcony that managed to illustrate the phrase "sheets of rain." It actually appears as a curtain of water in a way. For those of you who are living outside the zone of monsoon rain, this is what those afternoon showers look like. Best to stay indoors and wait it out if you can. It isn't pleasant to drive a scooter in.
Since the south of Taiwan doesn't get the winter rain of the north, these heavy rains are vital to the ecosystem here. In addition, the rain gives the sometimes filthy streets a well-needed scrubbing. Maybe too clean, though. Last night I came home to find a man passed out drunk, sleeping in one of the scooter parking spots in the photo! The Taiwanese are adept at napping anywhere. Really, anywhere. Restaurants, classrooms, on the backs of scooters, on or under your desk at work during lunch, etc. Then it is up and on your way.

What a cool blog. Very cool. Very pretty.
I'll put you on my roll.
Stop by when you can spend some time.
